Formed in Perth (Australia) in 1985 around the songwriting partnership of Ian Freeman and Jeff Baker, The Palisades went onto release a Mini Lp "A Month Too Soon" on Easter Records as well as recordings for local radio station compilations. In 1988, Ian took the final line-up of the band to Sydney while Jeff joined the Summer Suns and then the original version of The Rainyard. Ian later collaborated again with Jeff as the Mars Bastards. He eventually joined the remaining members of The Rainyard to form Header. The Egg Records CD compiles the mini-lp, a flexi, three compilation tracks and one previously unreleased song. |

“The
Palisades hit it clean and distinctive, immaculately lush and lyrical
with a supple “The Palisades, Their “month too soon” 5 tack 12” on Easter
Records is a clever, intricate piece of work relying on versatile guitars
and harmonica for an overall fretful, yearning, despondent music with
suitable content “ ..Giggling in the rain is remarkable, in this age of
discussion when every emotion can be televised and shown to the world,
that far off passion .. In drought each drop goes OH!” " literate yearning mid-80s jangle pop that the Matinee bands' older brothers used to listen to" - Boa Melody "I'd never actually heard of the Palisades before, but when I received this, I was very excited - not because every release so far on Egg has been fab (although that's certainly true), but because I recognized the guitarist Jeff Baker, who was also in one of my all-time favorite Australian bands, the Rainyard! Other projects from the band's members include classics like the Summer Suns, Header and Mars Bastards, so hearing one of their earliest projects ('85-'89) is a treat, indeed! . Musically, it's not too far from the Rainyard, but there's a more 80s sound reminiscent of Aztec Camera and the Pale Fountains here, with both acoustic and electric guitars and a bit of reverb on the vocals. this is a fantastic document of this mid 80s Aussie jangle pop band!" - IndiePages |
